T-shirts & stabilizers

I have been asked to do some embroidery on T-shirts. They are going to be heavy designs, ie, footy badges. Not ideal on T-shirts I know, but it's what the customers want. I have found the heaviest T-shirt I can. I would imagine that cutaway stabilizer would be better than tearaway, however, I find it can be scratchy if next to the skin. So, my question is, would maybe 3 or 4 layers of tearaway work? Would appreciate some advice on what you all use. Thanks in advance.

You might try mesh backing which is nice and soft. Try 2 peices with 1 peice of tear away, (positioned so you can tear it after emb. and cut the mesh) May need more if the design has lots of fill.

I would agree with cberry...a high quality mesh backing. I offer a no show diagonal mesh stabilizer on my website.

I know this is late on the post, but I have never had luck with using tear away on flats. Mesh always works good. I have used a lighter cut away backing doubled up and nevery had any complaints about it itching.
