Hi Sally,

First of all, welcome to Dtalk !

Cleaning up an artwork depends on various things, there are software that can be used to clean the artwork up.

1) Where the artwork came from.
If you are saving logos from the internet, theres a big chance that you will be saving small images that are normally suitable to view on the screen. On the other hand you are safe with a scanned image OR higher resolution bitmap from a clipart CD.

2) Structure of the artwork.
Artwork stucture means weather its a bitmap or a vector. If you have a vector there is nothing to clean up and vectors are already clean. If you have a bitmap, it definately needs to be cleaned up if it is low Res.

3) Software.
Two of the best vector based softwares are Corel Draw and Illustrator.
both do an excellent job if you want to redraw the artwork from a blury, fuzzy low Res bitmap. This is more time consuming, but it really pays off as the digitized logo is really perfect.
Software for Bitmaps is Photoshop. I have personally been using the CS2 version of photoshop and am really satisfied with the fetures and filters.
To clean up a bitmap you can use noise reduction , blur reduction & sharpening filters.Small bitmaps can even be enlarged to some extent without loosing to much quality.

This is on my part. If you find any usefull information that would help others. please post it here.

Software

Hello Sally,

I primarily use Paint Shop Pro. Aside from a few file extensions, namely .ai and .eps files, it can open most formats that are generally used. I find it very useful and it is much more affordable than Illustrator. If you are trying to create the art, Illustrator or Photo Shop may be better choices. For the software regardless of what you decide, , I'd try Ebay. I have bought several software programs both new and used and as yet have not had any trouble. I also paid far less than I would have at a retail store.
As far as a manual, a lot of software now has downloadable manuals from the help tab once you open the program.

I totaly agree with you DigiDoctor, Paintshop pro is really a good software to use for editing or cleaning up images or so called artwork.

Here are some tutorials that may come in handy

I suggest you download a trial (demo) of PaintShop Pro before you purchase it. You will get 30 days to try the product to see if its really what you are looking for.

hello Sally,

"I would like to know where I might find software and manuel for artwork clean up before digitizing."
firstly, you could find the graphic designer to help;
secondly, you can send the logo to your digitizing company. some of the digitizing center can clean the logo and re-set the logo as per your instruction. like our company, we can cope with logo as per costomer's instruction.

any questions, pls feel free to contact with me.

sincerely,

Will
