Splitting Objects

Splitting Objects
When: You may want to split objects when you are inserting a color change into a design. Normally, if you want to change the color of an object, you first select the object and then choose a different color from the color palette on the screen. What if you want to insert a color change inside an object? You could insert a manual color change function, but instead, try splitting the object. You can also use Split Object to change an Input C object to an Input A, using the same method described below. Just eliminate the step of selecting a different color for the second object.
Why: By splitting the object at the point you want the color to change, you are creating 2 separate objects, each with their own color information. If you add a color change in this way, you will see the color change listed in the resequence by color and view by color lists. You will also have less editing to do later if you decide to make additional changes to the design. A manual color change function has to be manually maintained and deleted, however, a color change that is part of an object is much easier to manipulate
How: Figure 1 shows a single object to start with.

 Travel through the object to the stitch that you want a color change. (Figure 2)
 Click on the Edit menu and choose Split Object.
 The single object is now split into 2 objects. Select one of the objects.
 With one of the objects selected, click on a different color from the color palette at the bottom of the screen. (Figure 3)
 Figure 4 shows that there are 2 separate objects.
Tip: You may also want to split objects when you require a different stitch density or underlay for an object that you have digitized all as one.
