I would like to know what the going rate is for embroidered items for babies. I am doing some contract work for a home based business and have been asked to embroider some of the items and have no idea what to charge for the service. Any help is appreciated

generally people quote baced on :
1) Quantity.
2) Stitch Count
&3) the number of colour changes in a design...
IN order of importance....
Each factor has to be weighed up.....
As most of your competitors will have multihead machines you have to give substancial discounts for quantity.
The most important factor for you to take into account is how many heads your machine has....
if its just one (like me) then you will only be able to handle small runs IE up to 50 if the logo is not too large ETC...... or maybe even 100 if you like punishment and want to burn the midnight oil.....
but realistically you have to price you time into your work and concentrate on the jobs the big boys dont want.
I'm not sure what prices are like in the U.S. but to pull a figure out of the air you might like to quote between $8-$3 per item depending on quanity and size.
But you should do some market research

You set a price for the number of stitches.
Your digitizing software and machine will tell you how many stitches are in each design.

Also consider the item you are embroidering on-- how much it cost you to buy it or how much it cost you to make it-- like a baby blanket with no embroidery on it yet.

Usually, i quote US$3.00 per 1000 stitches, it is a reasonable price of my high quality.

If you are a start-up small business then I guess $2 for 1000 stitches is a great offer. You could increase once you have proven the quality and customers are starting to pour in.
