Viking: Lena (Sewing Machine)
Approx price paid: $349.95
Had this machine for: 1 week Recommended? Yes Features * Drop-In bobbin * Free Arm * Adjustable Stitch Length and Width * Adjustable Presser Foot Pressure * Adjustable Needle Position What I likes about this machine I've only had this machine a week. My Viking 1100 needed to be repaired and I thought it was going to cost nearly $400.00 to repair it. I did not want to put that much into the machine and not be sure it would continue to perform for me. I purchased the Lena on line after seeing it in a local shop. It seems to have the basic features that I use most often. I use the straight stitch, overcast and zig zag all the time. I needed the adjustable needle position to make my piping. I also wanted to use the Viking feet that I already have. This seems to be a nice dependable machine that I can use as a back up. I've tried all the stitches and am in the process of completing a little dress. I'll have to admit that it is not my 1100 and I continually look for my little computer panel. I need to add that it makes a nicer buttonhole than my 1100. It has what they are calling PBB(perfectly balanced buttonholes) I haven't mastered it yet, but my practice buttonhole looked better than my 1100. *side note* My husband was able to repair my 1100 himself, so no cost there. I was so thrilled with that. It was not the main circuit board, but bad spots on the armater (sp). Now I have 2 usable machines. What I does not like about this machine I wish it had a cover or carrying case. I wish it had the needle up/down position and that the Vikings had the standard stitch plates instead of the metric. I'm getting use to the thread cutter locations. It will take time. I will definitely save for another computerized machine in the future, but this will be fine and I can pass it down to my now 9 year old daughter in a couple of years. I guess you could say I'm spoiled by my 1100, but I sewed for 12 years on a mechanical Kenmore and made some really nice things. I think it is whatever we get use to. |
